Gift to Theater Angels (Department of Theater)

When Lafayette College was celebrating its 65th birthday back in 1891, The American Dictionary of Slang defined the word “angel” for the first time as a person who backs or invests in a theater production. Over a century later, the Theater Department at Lafayette College still believes in angels, and we know what a difference theater angels can make.

Theater Angels have done a lot in the past few seasons:

• They taught theater workshops for area elementary school kids who came to campus to see Lafayette students perform The Jungle Book and Miss Electricity.
• They ran professional training classes in stage make-up techniques for the cast of Into The Woods and puppet-making for the cast of How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
• They helped theater students beef up their resumes by performing in Tina Howe’s Museum off-Broadway with professional actors and appearing in Moliere’s Tartuffe off-Broadway with Fluxus Theater.
• They brought Broadway actors to campus to develop Caligula, a new rock musical, in a week-long workshop with Lafayette students.
• They backed productions such as Oleanna and Shakespeare's R&J that were directed and designed by Lafayette students.
• They staged the fights in As You Like It, I Hate Hamlet, and She Kills Monsters.
• They gave voice and diction lessons to the cast of Pride and Prejudice.

Help Lafayette Theater continue to spread its wings across campus, into the local community and even beyond—be an Angel.
